This note was part of the state’s first wartime issue, with 288,000 $1 notes released. It features Governor Milton’s secretarial signature and a countersignature in the upper right. Designed and printed by Hoyer & Ludwig, the note includes a portrait of Washington—also seen on the T7 and T8 Confederate $100 and $50 Treasury Notes—and a vignette of Tellus, which also appears on the T8 $50. Given that Hoyer & Ludwig produced all three Confederate notes, it’s no surprise these vignettes were reused to streamline the design process.
