RARE GRADE - Chartered in 1850 and opened in 1856, the bank suspended operations in 1858 following speculative investments in Arkansas land and enslaved labor, ultimately closing in 1862 with the arrival of Union forces. The $5 note features Ceres and Liberty seated beside a central vignette of a cotton plant, flanked by portraits of Andrew Jackson on the left and G. Ambrose Davie on the right.
