Description

During World War II’s North African campaign (Operation Torch), the U.S. issued special "North Africa" emergency notes to prevent their use by the enemy if captured. These notes, also known as "yellow seal" Silver Certificates, were designed to be easily identifiable and could be quickly devalued if U.S. forces suffered defeat or large amounts of cash fell into enemy hands. Issued in $1, $5, and $10 denominations, these notes were nearly identical to regular U.S. currency, with the key distinction being a yellow Treasury seal instead of the usual blue. This unique feature made them easily recognizable and reinforced their role as a controlled wartime currency.
