Description

Paper money was issued by the original 13 colonies and Vermont from 1690 to 1793. With numerous issues and denominations, these notes featured a diverse range of designs and vignettes. Denominations were often listed in the English pound system or tied to Spanish milled dollars. The final Continental Currency resolution included the most denominations, was printed on watermarked paper, and featured orange-colored borders and emblem devices.

Several printers were involved in producing colonial notes, including notable figures like Ben Franklin and Paul Revere. Continental currency, introduced between 1775 and 1779, was issued alongside state notes to help finance the Revolutionary War. Unfortunately, widespread inflation and British counterfeiting efforts led to its devaluation.
