The 1934A $10 "Hawaii" Federal Reserve Note was a special emergency issue created in response to the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1942. These notes were distributed exclusively in the Hawaiian Islands as a precautionary measure in case of a Japanese invasion.
Standard 1934A $10 Federal Reserve Notes were overprinted with the word "HAWAII" on both the front and back, making them easily identifiable. This allowed the U.S. government to quickly demonetize them if they fell into enemy hands. The note retains the traditional design elements of a standard $10 bill, featuring Alexander Hamilton’s portrait on the front and the U.S. Treasury Building on the back. Additionally, these notes have a distinctive brown Treasury seal, setting them apart from regular Federal Reserve Notes.
