Description

These particular notes are top pop, with only 14 graded at this level. Given its rarity, it may be the only known consecutive pair in this grade, making it an exceptional and highly collectible piece for any serious currency collector.Ranked #65 in 100 Greatest American Currency Notes, the 1935A $1 Hawaii Emergency Issue is one of the most iconic notes from the World War II era. Issued by the U.S. Treasury as a precautionary measure, this $1 Silver Certificate was part of a special series created to safeguard U.S. currency in the event of a Japanese invasion of the Hawaiian Islands. The note is easily recognizable by the bold “HAWAII” overprint on the front, which was designed to distinguish it from regular U.S. currency. This overprint allowed the U.S. government to quickly invalidate and replace the currency if it fell into enemy hands.

The obverse features a portrait of George Washington along with the familiar Treasury Seal and serial number, while the reverse includes the classic large "ONE" and intricate security designs typical of the 1935A Silver Certificates.
