The $5 bill from the 1899 series of Silver Certificates, ranked #10 in 100 Greatest American Currency Notes, features a portrait of Running Antelope, a well-known Native American leader. Running Antelope became the head chief of the Tatokainyanka tribe in 1851. Born in 1821 in South Dakota, he passed away in 1896. Three years after his death, his portrait was featured on the $5 Silver Certificate, which is why collectors often refer to this note as the "Indian Chief Note" or simply the "Chief Note."
